ACE SURFBOARDS

A long time ago, 1979, my wife Mindy and I spent 9 months “following the dream”  In Ecuador. It was a true adventure. Part of the adventure was shaping Balsa wood surfboards in Playas Ecuador with Skip “gringo Andres” Kozminski. It was a fantastic time.

Over the years I have had people ask me to build  a Balsa board. Due to several reasons I only made one Balsa board in 30 yrs. I concentrated on shaping foam boards for a few big name labels. That is how I made a living.

One of my main reasons for not making Balsa boards in the U.S. was the quality and availability of the wood. When I was in Ecuador we wanted light weight wood. I could tell which wood I wanted by looking at it. Pink wood with some visible grain and “artistic” knots  was what we wanted, for weight and caricature.   In the U.S. when you could get the wood it was always too white or grey and heavy because thats the way the lumber companies wanted it. I just was not interested in making heavy boards when I knew what could be done when you had “pick of the wood”

Recently we went back to Ecuador to see if we still liked it there. And reacquainted myself with with Balsa. I was able to take my time and enjoy the process. I now have complete control from start to finish of my Balsa wood surfboards. From wood selection, rocker, outlines, fins and glassing.

I will be taking a LIMITED amount of orders for custom Balsa surfboards. Each board will be made on a one at a time basis, no production rush in Ecuador. I will include a picture CD of your board from start to finish. If you are interested please contact me.
